Noriega brain surgery delayed

A BRAIN TUMOR  operation on former military dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega, set for  July 21, will not take place on that date, says his lawyer Angel Ezrra.

The reason, according to the lawyer, is that the former general should spend at least two weeks in preoperative preparations, according to the results of tests that were performed recently, so the  transfer from his prison cell  to Santo Tomas Hospital (HST) did  not take place on Monday July 18 as planned. reports TVN Noticias,

The lawyer said that apparently the  time needed  to prepare for the operation was not taken into account and such care cannot be given  inside the El Renacer Prison because it does not meet the necessary conditions and not within the Hospital because of the risk of hospital-acquired H1N1 flu.
Ezrra also said they have requested a pass for Noriega to have two weeks of pre-operative care at home.

He argued that it would be irresponsible to send him to Santo Tomas and operate in three days, because it would be tantamount to a death penalty.

A team of private doctors for Noriega met Monday with HST doctors, to manage the change in the date.
