New $70 million jail for Coln

A NEW PRISON complex to house over 1,600  men and women inmates is to be built in Colón.

The Ministry of Government has published the tender for the construction of the facility which will be located on a plot of 23 hectares on Costa Abajo de Colón, where the Pinna Shooting Range was once located.

According to information on PanamaCompra, the reference cost of the work is $70.4 million and includes,

plans, preliminary studies, construction of the work and supply of equipment.

The deadline for delivery of the project will be 30 months.

The works include 10 buildings for men's cells, three for women, a maternal and child building, seven surveillance towers, a workshop building, an auditorium, a religious center, classrooms and fences.

The complex will hold 1,570 men and 76 women.

The deadline for presenting proposals is June 21.
