National Assembly asked to try Supreme Court judge

Representatives of 80 citizen’s groups in Panama presented  a complaint  on Wednesday, March 30, demanding that the National Assembly try a supreme Court judge for violating laws and  the constitution

The complaint against Judge,José Abel Almengor,  came from The Citizens' Assembly. Almengor is alleged to have been involved in a plot to oust the  former Attorney General, Ana Matilde Gómez.

The petition, was received by the secretary general Wigberto Quintero and  asks that Amengor:  "be tried for alleged involvement in acts  in the exercise of his functions, to the detriment of the free functioning of public authority and violating the constitution and laws. "
Soon after. students of the Faculty of Law at the University of Panama under a banner proclaiming: "We demand decency in the Supreme Court”  were on the streets distributing leaflets  protesting the  scandal involving the judge.
