Man-made fires causing destruction to Panama habitat

Fires started by people caused the loss of  2,250 hectares of forests, mangroves and pastures in 2010.

A report by Panama’s national environmental agency (Anam) said there were 86 fires in Panama, most of them in the provinces of Coclé, Chiriquí, and the Panama City area,"

Forest and mangrove fires destroyed 726 hectares, and agricultural fires, including grasslands, pastures and crops, often deliberately set,  made up the rest.
