Health workers continue strike and picketing

Picketing and, vigils by Panama's nursing assistants and  medical technicians will continue throughout the weekend.

Members of the National Association of Practitioners, Nursing Assistants and Technicians (Anpate) are on an indefinite work stoppage that started April 11.

 Anpate president, Carlos Peralta, told La Prensa that the stoppage willl continue through this weekend and the  group hopes to meet with health authorities Monday April 16.

Peralta said  that the indefinite strike was called  to ensure compliance with the provisions of Law No. 53, which establishes the salaries of the members. colleagues. 

He said that negotiations with health authorities were stalled because they will not comply with the provisions of Law 53, which decreed immediate payment of the  agreed salary scale for practitioners, nursing assistants and technicians.
