THE HEALTH Insurance industry in Panama is suffering few ailments as the sale of policies jumped 12.6 percent to $145.4 million in the first nine months of the year.

The figure comes from a report of the Comptroller that also reveals that only 13 percent of the population went to private institutions when hospitalized.
The other 87 percent of the population used public health facilities.
The official figures indicate that of the 211,155 patients admitted to different hospitals in the country, only 27,320 (went to private institutions.
The study took place from January to August.
