PRESIDENT, Juan Carlos Varela, has  asked the Deputy Minister of Social Development (Mides), Zulema Sucre, "to make her  resignation available".

The President's statement came  four days after bodyguards of the deputy minister complained she asked them to perform functions unrelated to their primary obligation, including walking her  pet dog named Gucci  who she designated a VIP .

"I have asked the minister of Social Development (Mides) Alcibiades Vasquez for a report on the performance of the deputy minister and the performance of officials. It makes perfect sense to do some research, "said Varela.

He added that  Monday morning  he contacted the deputy minister Sucre and "asked her to offer her  resignation, until I receive this report and take a decision."

Varela left the door open for the salvation of the beleaguered official saying that in this case no officials of the  Institutional Protection Service (SPI) were involved and hinting at what his  predecessor, Ricardo Martinalli might have called political persecution.

The Martinelli owned Panama America  opened an investigation into Sucre’s  multi out of country trips.

"It's temporary staff working in the Mides and previously for  a deputy of Democratic Change. There was also a campaign from within. Social networking accounts were set up. Structures were mounted. It appears that there is an internal source" said Varela.

"If the information passed is correct, we have to act. But first I have to receive the report," he said.
