Four hospitals,1,246 beds coming on stream

WORK WILL RESUME    on four stalled hospital projects  and bring 1,246 beds into the Ministry of Health domain  in 2017.

The news follows  an agreement between the Ministry  and  IBT Group,

The projects include Amador Guerrero Hospital in Colon, Anita Moreno Hospital in Los Santos, Bugaba General Hospital Chiriqui and the Meteti General Hospital in the Darién. The projects had been stalled due to various audits of the Office of the Comptroller General.

Contracts for the original hospitals were signed in 2010 by the  former Minister of Health Franklin Vergara in the amount of $ 237 million I n the next three years they were adding up to three addenda were added to each contract, which increased costs to $ 332.8 million ,.
During the government of Ricardo Martinelli, IBT won contracts through a controversial middleman worth more than $ 425 million.  THey  eventually exceeded $ 500 million with addenda.
IBT Group has a history of contractual breaches and overpricing in British Virgin Islands, Peru, Spain and the Dominican Republic.
