THREE DUTCH women tourists were rescued by firemen at the top of Volcan Baru, in Boquete Chiriqui. on Monday October 20. One of the girls had a leg injury and two had signs of exhaustion.

They has set out without a guide, despite the massive publicity in Holland following the disappearance and deaths of two young Dutch women in the area in April.
Manuel De la Cruz, of the Fire Department of Chiriqui, said the tourists were given first aid by paramedics of the institution, but refused to be transported to a medical center in Boquete or David.
De la Cruz said that the women showed signs of exhaustion and dehydration, typical of the low temperatures and rain was in the area for much of the morning and evening.
He said he was concerned that these three people started this journey of ascent to the top of Volcan Baru, without a tour guide who has knowledge of first aid, risking their safety.
"The worst of it is that they refused to be transferred to a public or private hospital and demanded to be taken to the hostel where they were staying in Boquete" he said
He said that foreign domestic tourists must comply with the rules and regulations that have been established to protect their lives and not enter these points without certified guides, to avoid situations like those recorded when two young Dutch women set out on the Pianist path on April 1. They were never seen again and their dismembered remains were found after massive searches including search teams and tracker dogs from Holland
