Extortion suspect appeals immunity cancellation

A POLITICIAN  held in El Renacer prison for alleged extortion, has appealed an  Electoral Tribunal (TE) decision revoking his immunity from prosecution.

On Wednesday 24 August 24 , the TE a declaration  that López Tirone was automatically without electoral criminal court impunity because "he was caught red-handed at the time of his arrest" by the authorities.

López Tirone, who enjoyed immunity for being a candidate for delegate on July 21 to the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) convention  was arrested on August 17 after being accused for the crime of extortion.

According to the authorities, on August 12 Ramon Ricardo Gonzalez Revilla filed a complaint in which he stated that in Democracy Panam a digital website  whose owner is López Tirone- published news that referred for several days to  an alleged brawl  involving  his family members in Washington. after a meeting with the politician  who originally asked for %48,999, agreed to pay $35,000 to of National Gear, SA  supposedly to stop publishing the information.
After a raid  by the Assistant Attorney general on the Costa Del Este  home  of López Tirone, members of the Directorate of Judicial Investigation (DIJ) reported that they found "two folders"one  containing  a check in the amount of $35,000 on behalf and a contract.
