A CRIMINAL complaint against President Juan Carlos Varela was filed on Thursday July 30 with the General Secretariat of the National Assembly.

The criminal action was filed by lawyer Roniel Ortiz, who is accusing the president of abuse of authority and excess of functions to the detriment of society reports La Prensa.
According to Ortiz, Varela has interfered with investigations involving the National Security Council.
"This has affected the series of investigations that have been advanced," he said, saying they have resulted in civil rights violations and false allegations.
