Recent rainfalls have pushed up the number of reported cases of dengue in Chiriqui. So far this year the number of cases has more than tripled.
There have been 77 cases brought by the Aedes aegypti mosquito
A regional Ministry of Health report projects that the number of in the Chiriqui province, will grow especially as the epidemic that affects Costa Rica increases the risk in the border provinces, such as Bocas del Toro and Chiriquí.
The Ministry of Health of Costa Rica reported that until the May 14, there were 5900cases of classic dengue, of which at least 400 belonged to communities bordering Panama.

It was hoped that this year Chiriquí cases of classic dengue would fall but, until mid month there were, 77 were confirmed, against 24 in the same period last year.
