A footbridge from the Cinta Costera under construction by a private company, is causing concern among citizen groups.
It will link the coastal strip with The Extreme Planet entertainment center but architect members of the Alianza pro Ciudad (Alliance for the City), believe that the project is an attempt to benefit from the parking lots in place on the coastal strip, built with $189 million of public funds.
If the footbridge costing $1million is completed, users will have free access to 86 parking spaces.
It is is being built by Extreme Planet ownerVicente Carretero, owner who obtained the necessary plans and approved building permits from the past Municipal Engineering Administration, whose former chief engineer is out on bail facing corruption charges.
La Prensa reports that after three days requesting an interview with the Public Relations department of the Ministry of Public Works, no explanation has been forthcoming about the details of the  contract or design.
