Clean up of former US military site to cost $1.1 million

THE CLEAN UP  of the former U.S. Army weapons testing ground in Piña, Colón is going to cost Panama $1.1 million.

The government has allocated the funds and the site will house a new prison.

The 20 hectare-site is 7.5 kilometers from the Gatun locks on the Panama Canal.

The clean-up includes neutralizing all unexploded ammunition to a depth of 1.20 meters.

The company that won the contract for the work was Fatutto S.A., which beat out Meco Construction ($1.3 million) and Cusa ($1.7 million).
