Canal authority accord with Spanish port
The Panama Canal Authority and the port authority of Algeciras in Spain have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic alliance to facilitate international trade and logistics activities between the two bodies.

Algeciras sits right across the bay from Gibraltar, which still flies the British flag, and is a regular bone of contention with Spain.
Panama Canal Administrator Alberto Alemán Zubieta says the agreement will benefit Panama because the Bay of Algeciras is at the entrance to the Mediterranean, and an important stage for the transit of cargo.
