Bridge death driver detained in hospital

The driver of the vehicle involved in a  weekend head-on collision on the Bridge of the Americas that killed a 28-year-old- woman and  seriously injured her four-year-old daughter has been ordered held in preventive detention, but he will not be behind bars as he was returned to the private hospital where he has been  under police guard since the night of the collision,

Judge of guarantees of the Third Judicial Circuit in  La Chorrera, ordered the provisional arrest of Alex Gómez Sousa-Lennox, driver of the truck that killed  Ana Karen Pérez,  on Saturday night, May 5. He was reported to be impaired at the time. He appeared in court in a wheelchair and was wearing a neck brace

The decision was made on Wednesday, May  9, May in a guarantee hearing held in Panama West.

He is facing charges of culpable homicide and an appeal hearing of the precautionary measure will be held on Monday, May 14.
