While indigenous leaders say their opposition to the Barro Blanco hydroelectric project  has not wavered, talks will be resumed Thursday, July 9, at the urging of Cardinal José Luis Lacunza.

Chief Silvia Carrera said that the project, which is 95 percent complete, needs to be demolished to protect indigenous communities along the Tabasara River reports La Prensa.
"This is our position, but we are willing to talk," Carrera said.
Lacunza said that the two sides "have to keep trying" and said the protests against the project should remain peaceful.
Indigenous protesters have blocked workers from entering the site for weeks. They have also threatened to begin hunger strikes if the project is not called off and the dam destroyed
