Two men accused of trying to smuggle a ton of cocaine from Panama. Into Canada have been arrested by The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police).

Scott Pedersen, 39, a resident of Victoria, and Vicente Hernandez, 39, a Mexican, were arrested on March 6 in Port Hardy, British Columbia.

They were arrested when their pleasure boat the "Huntress" reached Port Hardy and they gave false information on the identity of the vessel. The "Huntress" was registered as a fishing boat.

Before entering Port Hardy, a Zodiac boat approached the "Huntress" and later headed for the shore .
After a search the police found 37 cloth bags containing one thousand packages of cocaine. Each packet weighed one kilogram.

Attorney General of British Columbia, Attorney General Kash Heed said:” this shows the magnitude of a single criminal transaction that would have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars of cocaine on the streets."

Police are investigating whether there were other people involved in the shipment of cocaine and have not ruled out more arrests.
