Hurtado urged to co-operate with Colombia prosecution

THE DEFENSE of María del Pilar Hurtado, former head of Colombia’s intelligence services said his client will not seek any rapprochement with the judicial authorities within the process she faces for her alleged involvement in illegal wiretapping and monitoring during the government of Álvaro Uribe Vélez.

The lawyer Jaime Camacho said that at this point he cannot seek a preliminary agreement or principle of opportunity with the Attorney General, reported El Espectador.
"Right now there is no legal option to negotiate. The process has already ended, "Camacho said.
The lawyer said he hopes aruling is issued in the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court in the process that will follow for the alleged involvement of Hurtado in five crimes.
At a press conference on Saturday, the Attorney General Eduardo Montealegre, invited the former director of the defunct Department of Administrative Security (DAS) to cooperate with the authorities to identify people who were behind these illegal activities advanced against a group of people, allegedly on orders from officials of the Presidency of the Republic.
