Doctors especially specialists, employed by the government  are among the worst paid workers says Panama’s Minister of Health Franklin Vergara, but they won’t see a raise for 2-3 years.

The Minister sid Thursday, June 30, that the salaries. need to be increased and the government is reviewing the salary levels. Currently government  physicians earn $1200 a month.

But Doctors, facing like the rest of the population growing inflation need not except a quick solution. Vergara said the raises would be included in the 2013 and 2014 budgets because the 2011 budget is already in place and the 2012 budget has already been discussed.

One doctor commented: “They can  quickly find $250 million for a luxury government finance tower, but not enough to pay front line health care workers.”
