OPINION: The loneliness of an exile without honor

THE LONELINESS of exile saddens and oppresses the soul, especially if it is a self-imposed exile.

The deputy in his maze of lawyers, image consultants, "experts" in crisis management, and the prolific Twitter, has to understand his reality. His financial goals had to be met at any cost, even if that price was paid with the taxes of the citizens and the entire nation handed the government property to him. Thus he was able, along with his family, to do business with hydropower, backpacks, the Petaquilla mine, dehydrated meals, irrigation projects, infrastructure projects, contracts of the National Assistance Programme (PAN), the collection of taxes and any other activity that was subject of his greed and personal vanity. Now he must assume the complex task of coordinating his legal counsel in three different countries: Panama, United States and Italy. If someone proposes him to recuse a Judge, he has no choice but paying, hand over fist, his team of luxury lawyers. Some of his mercenary lawyers would have recommended him to ask for humanitarian asylum, while others would have advised him to renounce the Parlacen, to put an end to the cases in the Supreme Court. The solution to his problems is simple and straightforward. Come back to Panama, confront the judges and prosecutors, and face the people you robbed and cheated. At least, if you recognize your faults, you would still have a little honor by telling the truth. Hoy por Hoy, La Prensa, October 15.
