OPINION: Fighting corruption and influence peddling

IN THE CASE of Financial Pacific (FP), the Superintendency of Securities (SMV) must take the leadership as a complainant to the Supreme Court to clarify what happened with the brokerage firm, and the role of officials and politicians at the highest level in the maze of deceit and cover-ups.
It is extremely Important for Panama to have a serious and reliable reputation as a financial center of the first order. Clearly, if the public wants justice to be done in this case it cannot leave the responsibility to two Judges who have demonstrated their disdain for institutions and carry on their shoulders major conflicts of interest. The SMV is a plaintiff in a court of lower rank, linked to FP and a former official of the entity was convicted. To advance the fight against corruption, the entity must represent all before the Court and ensure that the game playing and trafficking of influences that poisoned our economy and marred the state administration is ended. Those are the negative values that the SMV must fight.
