THE CALL to comply with measures for rational use of water, implemented by the national government, has been interrupted by an urgent need to supply the main Carnival celebrations in the country.
For the festivities in the capital city,to the waste of water is added an element of audacity on the part of the authorities of Pandeportes, which decided to give "maintenance" to the Eileen Coparropa pool,, just at the moment when people are ordered not to waste water and in particular drinking water. Both the Tourism Authority of Panama and Pandeportes, have made bad moves.Far from leading by example, they prioritize fun and mojaderas [water tanks spraying revelers] instead of creating awareness of the great importance of maintaining water reserves that can supply the general population and their needs. The country needs a truly consistent explanation of this decision.
It is unacceptable that in times of crisis, it is the Carnival which prevails even at the expense of the good of the whole country.
