Film makers from 17 Latin American countries have expressed support for a plan to create an International film festival in Panama in 2012.

Members of associations and groups of filmmakers were in Panama to discuss aspects of the film industry in the region and to promote and support mechanisms for the American continent film industry.
Luis Pacheco, representing the Film Producers Association of Panama (ASOCINE), reported that representatives of FIPCA (Iberoamerican Federation of Film and Audiovisual Producers) signed a joint document showing support and promotion of the proposed International Film Festival of Panama.
At the closing ceremony, the IFF Panama organizing committee presented a summary on the status of the festival projected to run through the first week of February 2012
They were told that the co-founder of TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) Henk Van der Kolk, is in Toronto, organizing a series of preparatory events in promote the Panama event. and that Rob Brown, CEO of IFF Panama, is holding meetings with government and private enterprise representatives to continue with the formal creation of this event.
Among those who have expressed support for the initiative are: COPA Airlines, ATP (Tourism Authority), MICI (Ministry of Industry and Commerce), The Panama Film Commission, Motta International, La Prensa, Caja de Ahorros, and Cerveceria Nacional.
