THE MONTH of November will find the full range of Mi Patria celebrations throughout Panama, and hot Jazz is right in the thick of things with new venues.

Jazz lovers are already ecstatic about Danilo’s Jazz Club, Teatro Amador, and the remodeled Platea, all in Casco Antiguo. Now, there’s a new kid on the block in Panama called, Xuvia Tequila Lounge & World Cuisine, located in Costa del Este, which is fast becoming a lifestyle and business “hub” east of the city. 

The name Xuvia (pronounced shoovia), pays homage to Panama’s tropical breezes, as this new spot joins the mix bringing Jazz to this upscale part of town. Jazz clubs and musicians all agree that the more places there are to play, the better things are for everyone.
Xuvia managed by, Nick and Alex Polit, opened in May of this year. Xuvia offers live music from some of the best entertainers in Panama from Thursdays throughSundays. Xuvia has an eclectic array of musical entertainment choices including Latin Nights, Bossa Nova Mood, and Rock, as well as Saxophone Jazz.

On November 15 Xuvia features a Jazz trio that includes: Jordan Zimmerman, a US born drummer who has studied at the Berklee College of Music and was active in the California Jazz scene prior to moving to Panama in 2013; Manouk Hatchadourian, is a French pianist who has been playing at concerts and festivals in France, Cuba and South Africa and now lives in Panama; and, Panamanian bassist Carlos Antonio Quirós who studied jazz at Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico, and is a member of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Panamá.

Panama has a rich history of Jazz from the early to mid 1900’s. A resurgence here is now evident to a growing number of Panamanians and expats alike.
