PANAMA’S BOXING legend, Roberto Duran  is the second greatest boxer of all time. The opinion comes from no less an expert than “ Money Man” Floyd Mayweather who, as king of bombast, unsurprisingly ranked himself as “Numero Uno”

Mayweather was speaking on the ESPN program "Challenge" where he had to choose his top five of the greatest boxers of all time, from a list of 10 famous fighters like Mohammad Ali, Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Leonard.

"I have won more Championships that all who are here, I've done it in less time and fewer fights than them all. In addition I’ve broken payment records, I've been world champion for 18 years and in five different categories "he argued.

However, Mayweather surprised the panel with the naming of Duran as the second best fighter of all time.

Responding to questions from David Faitelson and Mauricio Pedroza why he had picked the 'Cholo', Floyd was blunt: "It's unbelievable."

"He was the best lightweight in history and moved up to win forcefullyagainst Sugar Ray Leonard. He went from 135 pounds to 160 to be champion."
As a follow up he told the panel. "It's a legend I love.".

Mayweather named Pernell Whitaker third, , followed by Julio Cesar Chavez and Mohammad Ali .
Duran owns a restaurant in Panama where videos of some of his famous fights may be seen. He won 103 fights, including 70 ko’s. His statue stands on Via Argentina. The film “Hands of Stone” with Robert De Niro, is due for release shortly.
