Choreographed contemporary dancers workin' it to a tribal drum, engaging traditional folk music and the sweet aromas of the local BBQ kebabs greeted me as I entered the main square of Penenome.

This year's  Penonome Arte En El Parque, in its fifth year, had even more to offer.

As I wandered through the square I really had a sense of Panama’s energy and a reminder of how much its citizens like to rise to an occasion. New artists of all ages have the opportunity to collaborate and display their art, market style alongside professionals and learn by doing and seeing.
It's as creative a concept as were the many styles of art on display. If that wasn't enough motivation for the budding artists, the art contest with a scholarship and cash prize capped it off.

It thrills me to see the arts being encouraged and festivals of many kinds growing in Panama.

This year the show had several committee organizers cum English translators circulating, making it possible for prospective buyers, not fluent in Spanish, to chat with the artists and answer questions.

A cashier was on hand too, which seems not so important until you are trying to break a $100, to help facilitate the purchase of art items.

All in all, well organized and a pleasure to attend.

I missed the ice cream cart, I wrote about last year, but I should probably thank them for that.
