PANAMA’S growth continues to lead the region and much of the world. The gross domestic product (GDP) grew 6.2 percent in the first half of 2014, says the Comptroller General.

The value of goods and services sold in the country between January and June, taking as reference prices for 2007, amounted to $17.3 billion, $1billion more than in the same period of the previous year.

The result is in line with expectations of the government and local economists, pointing to a growth between 6 percent and 7 percent at the end of the year.
The activities that grew most  in the first six months include fishing, mining and quarrying, construction  transport and storage , the segment which includes the activities of the Panama Canal and the port system. On Monday, September 15,Panama issued $1.25 billion in bonds in New York.
