PANAMA’S government has given approval for a free trade zone in the province of Herrera, where what is described as an eco-industrial park requiring an investment of $30 million for its first phase will be constructed.
The project is being led by a group of Panamanian businessmen and European investors, who with the construction of the eco-industrial park intend to attract agribusiness firms and companies from other sectors such as logistics and technology  reports CentralAmericaData

"... The project, to be located on land in La Arena, via Pesé, will have three phases: the first will focus on the design and development of infrastructure in six acres; the second, distribution and use of common services such as customs activities, [and the third,] international marketing and export logistics. The three phases will be executed over a period of seven years. One of the objectives of the free zone is to add value to agricultural production in the region and enhance agricultural exports.

Prensa.com reports that "...The eco-industrial park will include operation of a research center oriented towards agro biotechnology which will also investigate and encourage the development of new agricultural products. "
